Several area cities are participating in the National Night Out observance next week, a crime and drug prevention event that occurs in communities throughout the nation and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
More than 37 million people in more than 16,000 communities are expected to join forces Aug. 2 to celebrate National Night Out’s 33rd annual event.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation from residents in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
Most of the community events include displays of police and fire-fighting equipment, entertainment, activities for children and free food and beverages for those attending.
