HUNTINGTON PARK — Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D-Commerce, participated in the unveiling Jan. 15 of a mural at El Gallo Giro, a restaurant on Pacific Boulevard at Florence Avenue.
The artwork, entitled “Fruits of the Earth,” was painted by Mexican artist Miguel “Neuzz” Mejia and commissioned by the City Council with funds from its Art in Public Places program.
Roybal-Allard, whose 40th District includes Huntington Park, presented certificates of congressional recognition to Mejia and to El Gallo Giro CEO Charles Bonaparte.
“Art like this is so important to our diverse society,” Roybal-Allard said. “As Americans, we come from many lands and many backgrounds, but these kinds of artworks help to preserve our cultural identities and remind us of our origins.”
