Bellflower developer provides artwork

BELLFLOWER — Developer Suhail Kharouba said Nov. 8 he did not yet have a tenant for a planned 6,000-square-foot commercial building at 8800 Alondra Blvd., but he does have a $10,500 artwork to grace the building for whoever moves in.

The artwork is a four foot high, eight foot long colorful raised tile mural on the wall of the building, to be done by Hacienda Heights artist Carole Choucair Oueijan.

It is a unique artwork, unlike any other around, said Mayor Pro Tem Dan Koops as the City Council unanimously approved the artwork, which Oueijan said will feature orchids and other flowers to pay tribute to the city’s name.

“We don’t want to tell a property owner what he can place on his land, but we do want to make sure it’s in good taste,” Mayor Scott Larsen said.

Kharouba, president of the Civil Works Corp., said he plans to break ground for the building early next year with completed excepted in 2016.

He heads a general engineering and building contractor firm based in Artesia and has purchased a former used car lot on Alondra west of Pitts Avenue.
