Bellflower plans Salute to Heroes

BELLFLOWER — The city will co-sponsor the Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Salute to Heroes event from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Town Center Plaza.

City Council members agreed to co-sponsor the event this year by waiving $1,486 in fees and adding a monetary contribution of $500.

The action also approved use of the plaza, the closure of Adenmore Street and operation of a beer garden at the site.

Chamber President Jeff Smith, owner of RailMaster Hobbies, 9812 Belmont St., said the event will once again honor past and present members of the armed forces and public safety personnel.

Planned are military and public safety displays such as vehicles and equipment, vendor booths, music and guest speakers, a chamber spokesperson said.

There will be some light snacks for sale but meals will be available at surrounding restaurants for a discount price, the spokesperson said.

Parks and Recreation Director P.J. Mellana said the city’s recreation motor home called Bellflower Recreation In Motion will be there to offer youngsters games and activities.
