BILL VAUGHAN’S TASTY CLIPS: New Isley CD tributes genius

On the heels of last year’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, this weekend will see the monumental release of “The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983),” a definitive 23-disc collection chronicling the evolution and enduring genius of America’s preeminent R&B/rock/pop/funk ensemble.

This essential library features newly remastered versions of The Isleys’ 21 albums released for both labels, nearly all of which are expanded with rare mixes and tracks making their CD and digital debuts.  The new compendium includes 84 rare and previously unreleased bonus tracks.

This set also includes, released for the first time in its entirety, the “Great Lost Isley Brothers Album”: Wild In Woodstock: The Isley Brothers Live At Bearsville Sound Studio 1980.  Conceived as a “live” double album (with overdubbed crowd noise), this newly restored performance offers an immersive look at a crucial chapter in the Isley Brothers’ long recorded history.

The Isley sound has influenced and been sampled by a virtual who’s who of industry giants including Ice Cube, The Notorious B.I.G., R. Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Aaliyah, and The Beatles, among others.

The band, which now consists of legendary vocalist Ron “Mr. Biggs” Isley and guitar giant Ernie Isley, return to the area’s Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Sept. 26.
