LOS ANGELES — Former NBA star Baron Davis and a few of his celebrity and professional athlete friends, played a fun, friendly and highly competitive game of basketball at University High School Dec. 16 for the second annual UWish Black Santa Celebrity Basketball Game.
Rapper Xzibit was the coach for Team North Pole while fashion designer Tracey Mills represented for Team South Pole. Among the celebrity players were rappers Tyga, Casey Veggies, YFN Lucci, Chamillionaire, A1 Bentley, Demetrius Shipp Jr., who played Tupac in the biopic, “All Eyez On Me,” model, Don Benjamin, NBA impersonator B Dot A Dot, instagram comedians and personalities DanRue and NickNPattiwhack, actress and television host Brittney Elena and many more.
University High’s gymnasium was filled with lots of cheers and screams from an audience filled with people of all ages. The game ended with Team South Pole taking home the win and B Dot A Dot being crowned MVP and rewarded a gold URB-E scooter.
The national anthem was sung by singer/songwriter Kali Nikole. Next Town Down performed their single, “Roll” during halftime. There were DJs both inside and outside the gym keeping attendees entertained, along with a food truck, cotton candy and snow cones, as well as games. Black Santa and his wife, Mrs. C paraded around the gym taking pictures and bringing positive energy and smiles to not only kid’s faces, but adult attendees as well.
A portion of the proceeds went to UniHi Education Foundation which supports the high school’s athletic department.
Davis created UWish Black Santa to celebrate diversity through storytelling, popular music and events and to inspire others.
Davis is a two-time NBA all-star played with the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers. He played his college ball at UCLA.
