“Food for Life: Delicious & Healthy Comfort Food from My Table to Yours!” is the new cookbook by boxing champion and home chef Laila Ali.
Ali, who has been cooking since her childhood, was inspired to create a cookbook that not only keeps the joy of food alive, but promotes the use of non-harmful ingredients.
“No matter how much I love to indulge in sweets and comfort foods, there is always a way to make a healthy twist to your favorite dishes,” Ali said. “That’s the inspiration that helped me launch ‘Food for Life.'”
The new cookbook is broken into sections where Ali discusses different courses and categories of meals. It features more than 100 of Ali’s favorite recipes that can be made by those new to cooking and also those who may be more experienced chefs.
“My style of cooking is like comfort foods, everyday foods but prepared in a healthier way,” Ali said. “I like to take meals that we love, that most people love, and then just try to figure out ways to make them more nutritious.”
Some of Ali’s favorite recipes shared inside the book include stew chicken, sweet potato pie, turkey tacos and oven “fried” chicken. A few of the more kid friendly dishes are spaghetti for breakfast, chicken fingers, fries and pancakes.
“My daughter inspired my spaghetti for breakfast recipe because she loves pasta and she doesn’t really like breakfast foods,” Ali said. “So I thought, ‘how can I take the things that she loves and adapt them so that she’ll actually eat them?’”
All of the recipes featured are gluten free and many of them are made with Ali’s own line of seasoning blends, Laila Ali Spice Blends.
Through the creation of her cookbook she encourages people to stay away from processed foods and begin cooking fresh food again.
In addition to being an author and home chef, Ali is a wellness advocate and television personality. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and family. To learn more about Ali and her work, visit lailali.com.
