Cantwell keeps playoff hopes alive

MONTEBELLO — The Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals go into their May 14 game with St. Bernard High with a Camino Real League playoff berth on the line.

A win by the Cardinals would put them in third place in the league, which should be good enough for the playoffs. The playoff brackets will be set this weekend by the CIF Southern Section.

The Cardinals tuned up for the crucial game with a 5-2 win over rival Salesian High May 9 in a nonleague game that was originally scheduled earlier in the season only to be rained out.

The Cardinals enter the week with an 11-11 record overall, with a 4-6 record in league play.

Salesian has already clinched the Santa Fe League championship. The Mustangs are 8-1 in league, 12-9 overall.
