Cerritos College hires new president

NORWALKCerritos College will conduct a welcome reception in honor of its new president, Jose Fierro, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in the college’s Student Center.

The college Board of Trustees appointed Fierro as the college’s president and superintendent July 6. He previously served as vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Prior to joining Laramie, Fierro served as an academic dean, associate dean of liberal arts and sciences and professor of biological sciences at Florida State College in Jacksonville.

Fierro earned his doctor of veterinary medicine from the University of Applied Sciences in Bogotá, Colombia, his master’s degree in leadership and management of educational programs from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Northcentral University in Prescott, Arizona.
