Lee Wesley Gibson celebrated his 105th birthday with family and friends May 21.
He is the father of three, grandfather of six, great-grandfather of 19, great-great-grandfather of 22 and the great-great-great-grandfather of three.
Gibson is currently the oldest living Pullman Porters, according to records at the A. Phillip Randolph Museum in Chicago.
President Barack Obama, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and several other elected officials sent congratulatory wishes to celebrate the special occasion.
Morningside High School graduate Sean Thomas is serving on the USS Donald Cook, living and working as a machinist at a naval base in Rota, Spain.
The Inglewood native says he is learning about himself as a leader, sailor and person.
“Being in the military is very stressful,” Thomas said. “However, doing something that 90 percent of the population can’t do is very rewarding.”
Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Los Angeles Police Airport Police Lt. Marlo Richardson to the California Contractors State License Board.
In 1999, Richardson joined the airport police. She is a member of Westchester-Playa Democratic Club Executive Board, Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute and California Women Lead.
She has a bachelor’s degree in communication with a minor in public administration from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
