Avis Gibson, an employee and labor relations official for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has been elected to the board of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, an organization that provides collaborative economic development leadership for Los Angeles County.

Gibson is a graduate of the African American Board Leadership Institute.

Ramneek Kaur

Ramneek Kaur received the Student Civic Engagement Award from Cal State Dominguez Hills at the school’s 2017 Founders’ Dinner Oct. 26. She received the award for her impact on the lives of others through her civic engagement and public service.

Kaur is a cellular and molecular major at Cal State Dominguez Hills, where she is also president and a founding member of the on-campus student organization called Homeless Outreach Promoting Empathy. This organization was established to bring more awareness to the social consequences of homelessness and to provide an avenue for students to interface with homeless individuals.
