Capri Maddox has joined the Los Angeles Unified School District as senior executive director of partnerships. In her new position, Maddox will work with the district to organize partnerships with community organizations, entertainment leaders and sports teams among many others.

Maddox, an LAUSD graduate herself, will develop the partnerships to improve educational experiences for district students.

Maddox previously served as president of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works.

Siedah Garrett

Grammy winning and two-time Academy Award nominated singer/ songwriter Siedah Garrett was honored at the Black Business Association’s “Salute to Black Music Awards,” with an appreciation for her contributions to black music.

The event was held in recognition of the Association of African American Music Appreciation Month.

Garrett has written and performed for artists such as Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Tevin Campbell and Donna Summer.

Emmy-winning writer and producer Lena Waithe recently signed a first-look deal with the Showtime network.

Through her Hillman Grad Productions, Waithe will have the opportunity to collaborate with Showtime on comedy and drama projects on which she will write and produce.

Waithe’s recent and highly praised “The Chi,” was a drama series, that garnered a renewal of a second season after gaining popularity.
