Virgil Roberts, a managing partner for an entertainment law firm, was recently honored by City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
Roberts, who recently had a school named after him, is chairman of the board of the California Community Foundation, treasurer of the Los Angeles Private Industry Council and more.
He has a degree from Harvard Law School.
William A. Covino, Cal State Los Angeles president, was recently named to the executive committee of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.
Prior to becoming the university’s seventh president, Covino served as a provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Fresno State for four years.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA, holds master’s degrees from Cal State Northridge and USC, and has a Ph.D. from USC.
Roberto Gutierrez, 17, has been awarded the $1,500 Solis Scholarship for his hard work and dedication to the Los Angeles School Police Officers Association Explorers Program.
Gutierrez has been a member of the LA School Police Department for four years, during which he became a sergeant and accumulated approximately 200 hours of community service.
He is currently a student at East Los Angeles College and hopes to transfer to a four-year university to pursue accounting.
