Jacquelyn M. Horton, director of public infrastructure development for the city of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission for Children and Families by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.
The Commission for Children and Families advises the Board of Supervisors on strengthening service delivery systems and enhancing partnerships to create safer and more secure futures for Los Angeles County’s at-risk children and their families.
State Sen. Holly J. Mitchell was honored as the Regional Legislator of the Year by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators at its annual awards celebration Nov. 30, in Brooklyn, New York.
Mitchell represents the 30th state Senate District in California, which includes much of South Los Angeles.
Pamela Thornton, founder and principal of Urban Land Matters, has been elected to the board of directors and serves as co-president for the League of Women Voters of Torrance Area, serving Torrance, Gardena, Carson, Lomita and Harbor City.
Thornton is the first African-American woman to serve in this leadership role. The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
