COMMERCE — The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Commerce will begin its 2015 fund-raising efforts Feb. 7 at noon as event volunteers and participants gather at the Commerce Senior Center.
The kickoff will feature speakers from the community who have benefitted from the funds raised at Relay for Life and will honor cancer survivors and caregivers.
It also will be the first opportunity to register a team and receive information about the overnight event to be held April 18and 19 at Veterans Memorial Park.
“This is Commerce’s fourth year participating in the Relay for Life event and each year it gets larger and larger,” said Francine Ayala, the former chair for the Commerce Relay for Life and now a relay specialist for the American Cancer Society. “This has become an emotional and uplifting event for our community, allowing us to come together as neighbors to mourn, heal, celebrate and move forward in our fight against cancer.”
One of the world’s largest grassroots fund-raising movements, Relay for Life mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease.
