COMMUNITY CALENDAR: Air quality district to host event honoring Cesar Chavez

For the fourth consecutive year the South Coast Air Quality Management District honors the memory of civil rights and labor activist Cesar Chavez with an event focusing on the environment and air quality.

The event is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Ballroom at Cal State Los Angeles, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles.

Longtime labor leader Maria Elena Durazo and Marc Grossman, a friend of the late Cesar Chavez, are keynote speakers and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa receives the Richard Alatorre Environmental Justice for All Award.

Gabriela Teissier, news anchor, reporter, and host for Univision in Los Angeles will emcee the event.

Tax assistance: Free income tax assistance is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rio Hondo College, 3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier. Those seeking assistance should bring photo identification for all those on the return, Social Security cards, birth dates for filers and all dependents, wage and earnings forms (W-2, W-2, 1099-R), interest and dividend statements (Form 1099s), a copy of 2016 federal and state returns, if available, a blank check with bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit, interest statements, day care records and day care tax ID number. Transit options: Staff from Fiesta Taxi explain the various transportation options available to Norwalk senior citizens needing to get to doctor’s appointments from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Norwalk Senior Center, 14040 San Antonio Drive.
