COMMUNITY CALENDAR: Downey space center exhibit honors Cassini

The Columbia Memorial Space Center, 12400 Columbia Way, Downey, reveals its newest exhibit in honor of Cassini’s 20-year journey to Saturn at 10 a.m. April 7.

The exhibit is open through June. The opening of the exhibit is part of the space center’s city of STEM festivities, which are designed to interest more students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Admission is $5.

Friday, April 6

Tax assistance: Free income tax assistance is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rio Hondo College, 3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier. Those seeking assistance should bring photo identification for all those on the return, Social Security cards, birth dates for filers and all dependents, wage and earnings forms (W-2, W-2, 1099-R), interest and dividend statements (Form 1099s), a copy of 2016 federal and state returns, if available, a blank check with bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit, interest statements, day care records and day care tax ID number. Tax assistance: Cal State Los Angeles, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles, is offering free income tax preparation services to individuals who make $54,000 or less and need assistance preparing and filing tax returnsThe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance service is available every Saturday through April 14 from 8 a.m. to noon in room c-343 on the third floor of Salazar Hall. More tax help: The Cerritos College Accounting Department and Accounting Club are offering free income tax assistance from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 122 of the Business Education Building on campus, 11110 Alondra Blvd., Norwalk. Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Services, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance provides free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.
