South Los Angeles meets East Los Angeles in the Los Angeles City Section playoffs this week when the Crenshaw Cougars face the Garfield Bulldogs Nov. 20 at Garfield High.
Both teams won during the opening round of Division I action, Nov. 13. Garfield defeated El Camino Real, 14-9, in a defensive struggle while Crenshaw was mauling Banning, 54-27.
In other Division I action, Dorsey will face Sylmar and Narbonne will face San Pedro.
Narbonne, the top-seeded team in the City Section, eliminated Eagle Rock from the playoffs, 54-0, Nov. 13. San Pedro knocked off South Gate, 43-18, Dorsey defeated Carson, 35-28 and Sylmar defeated Taft, 48-27.
In Division II, Los Angeles faces Huntington Park in what figures to be a high-scoring affair. The Romans defeated Bell, 54-13 last week and the Spartans knocked off Granada Hills, 55-31. Other Division II games feature Jefferson against Canoga Park and Gardena against Fairfax.
In Division III, Marquez faces Manual Arts and Franklin faces West Adams.
In the CIF Southern Section, St. John Bosco continues to be on pace to face Corona Centennial in the Pac 5 Division championship game Dec. 11 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
Both teams hit the 70-mark in their first round games Nov. 13. Bosco defeated Corona, 72-7, while Centennial defeated Chaminade, 70-29.
This week, St. John Bosco faces Loyola and Corona Centennial plays Orange Lutheran.
Serra, the other area Pac 5 team, defeated Westlake 38-20, Nov. 13, and gets to play Mater Dei this week. Mater Dei crushed Lakewood, 66-14.
In other CIF Section playoff action, Montebello, which had been among the top-ranked teams in the Mid-Valley Division all season and was ranked third heading into the playoffs, was overwhelmed by Viewpoint, 49-0, in the opening round. Inter-city rival Schurr advanced by defeating Baldwin Park, 27-26 in overtime. The Spartans draw top-seed Sierra Canyon this week.
In the Western Division, Culver City was eliminated by Oxnard Pacifica, 45-20.
Four area teams survived the first week of the Southeastern Division playoffs, topped by number-one seed La Serna, which defeated Paramount, 49-21.
Cathedral defeated Crescenta Valley, 58-19, Downey defeated Whittier, 35-7 and Dominguez defeated Burbank, 41-21.
La Serna faces Harvard-Westlake Nov. 20, while Cathedral battles Downey and Dominguez faces second-seed La Mirada. Warren, Norwalk and Santa Fe were knocked out in the opening week.
