El Rancho football coach resigns

PICO RIVERA — Vinnie Lopez, who coached the El Rancho High School football team to its first league title in 17 years last fall, has resigned his position to take the head coaching job at Pacifica High in Garden Grove.

Lopez guided the Dons to an 8-3 record last season and a 5-0 mark in the Del Rio League.

Lopez has roots in Orange County and the Garden Grove School District is reportedly one of the top-paying districts in the CIF Southern Section.

But Pacifica has won only four games in the last two years.

Lopez was 19-13 in three seasons at El Rancho.

His replacement has not been named.
