LOS ANGELES – A new food column called “In The Kitchen With Carla” debuts on the back page this week with a focus on providing readers with tasty recipes and healthy, affordable food options, Wave officials announced this week.
Written by certified nutritionist Carla F. Williams, the monthly column will offer readers novel ways to prepare nutritious, budget-conscious meals without sacrificing taste or flavor, said Gregory J. Huskisson, executive vice-president of content and audience.
“We hear so much about food deserts and junk food options in our community that we wanted to provide readers with fresh alternatives to the fare they typically might find at burger joints, chicken shacks and mini-marts in L.A.,” Huskisson said.
“Our ultimate goal is to continue giving readers what they’ve consistently asked for: compelling content that helps them live healthier, happier and more empowered lives,” Huskisson added. “We’re pleased to have Carla as one of our columnists and we look forward to reader feedback on her recipes.”
Williams, a South L.A. resident and cookbook author, said the new column is part of her life’s mission to spark a community dialogue around healthy cooking.
“I love talking about cooking; great meals are one of life’s real pleasures!” Williams said. “I created the column because I want to guide readers into the kitchen to prepare tasty, practical dishes that reward their taste buds and their health and that support the healthy lifestyle we’re all striving for.”
“In The Kitchen With Carla” will appear in The Wave’s print edition on the first Thursday of each month. A weekly blog also will debut on The Wave’s website in October and will answer readers’ questions about food and nutrition.
