Grief support center hosts West L.A. Run for Hope

WEST LOS ANGELES — Our House Grief Support Center held its seventh annual five kilometer Run For Hope Festival May 1 at the West Los Angeles Civic Center and Bandshell.

Every year, the run focuses on community engagement, bringing people together to support each other in memory of their loved ones.

This year’s run was dedicated to the memory of former Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who died March 30.

City Councilman Mike Bonin, who succeeded Rosendahl on the City Council, started the run in Rosendahl’s memory.

“We are proud to honor Councilman Bill Rosendahl and celebrate his memory while uniting the community in the memory of their loved ones,” said Michele Prince, executive director of Our House Grief Support Center.

The Run for Hope is the center’s largest event of the year, with an estimated 1,700 runners taking part. With advanced pledges, the center hoped to raise about $480,000 for the event.

The Hollander Family and Karma Rescue were presenting sponsors.

Other community partners included In-N-Out Burger, which provided complimentary burgers to all registered children and teens.

Vendors included Starbucks, Justin’s Nut Butters, Pressed Juicery, Yelp, New York Life, iHeart Momo Photobooth, and Di Dio’s Italian Ice.

There also was a variety of entertainment including contortionists and stilt walkers from Aerial Warehouse, the Santa Monica High School Cheer Squad, LACES Jazz Band, Magic Castle Junior Magicians, Mar Vista Garden Steppers, face painting, and Run MC as the DJ and announcer.
