HUNTINGTON PARK — The City Council here has begun the task of appointing new advisory commission members after voiding all previous advisory boards May 18.
Mayor Karina Macias announced June 1 that applications for the advisory posts are online and appointees will be named at the June 15 council meeting for the Planning Commission, Civil Service Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Health and Education Commission and Historic Preservation Commission.
There is new criteria concerning absences and residency and there will be background checks of all applicants, Macias said.
Previous commission members are welcome to reapply.
In a related action June 1, the ouncil approved rules for a new group, the Youth Commission, to be made up of teens age 14 to 19.
That commission will have 10 members, with each council member appointing two. It will meet at least once a month at City Hall, 6050 Miles Ave.
Deadline for applicants for that commission is June 29 with appointments to be announced at the July 6 City Council meeting.
