L.A. DIGEST: UCLA black law students host gala

BEVERLY HILLS — The Black Law Student Association at UCLA will host its annual gala, beginning with the red carpet at 6 p.m., April 4 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, 9641 Sunset Blvd.

This year’s theme, “Champions of Change,” highlights the success of several community members. The event also will establish the first endowed scholarship for incoming African-American Students.

Benjamin Crump, American civil rights attorney, will be honored. The keynote speaker will be Lola Smallwood Cuevas, founder of the LA Black Worker Center/UCLA Labor Center. Project director and actress and social activist Jada Pinkett Smith will give special guest remarks.

Other special guests includeactors Taye Diggs, Courtney B. Vance, Terry Crews, Kimora Lee Simons, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson, Assemblywoman Autumn Burke and Presiding Judge Kevin Brazile.
