SOUTH LOS ANGELES — U.S. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard administered the oath of office to Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price during a community swearing in ceremony July 8 at the Green Meadows Recreation Center.
Price was re-elected to his second term representing Council District 9 in March. He was first elected to the council in May 2013.
LAPD to hold
LOS ANGELES — The city’s Personnel Department will offer residents the opportunities to learn about various police and civilian jobs available with the Los Angeles Police Department at a hiring expo from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the city Personnel Department, 700 E. Temple St.
The expo provides interested candidates with officer panels, on-site testing and information booths where they can learn about open positions with a salary range of $60,907 to $93,793.
LAPD officers work out of 18 divisions and patrol in cars, boats, helicopters, bikes, horseback and on foot.
SOUTH LOS ANGELES — The Men’s Cancer Network is holding a support group meeting to promote clinical preventative services from 9:30 a.m. to noon July 15 at Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd.
This month, the focus is on colon and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Anton Bilchik will give a presentation on those cancers and how to prevent them. The meeting is open to both men and women.

PACIFIC PALISADES — The Hollyrod Foundation, which provides support to families living with Parkinson’s disease and autism, is holding a fashion show fundraiser, “DesignCare” from 6 to 10 p.m. July 15, at a private estate.
The reception, which includes a buffet dinner and silent auction, begins at 6 p.m. The live auction and fashion show will take place at 7 p.m. Cocktail attire is required.
This year’s honorees include Linda Ronstadt for the Matthew T. Robinson Award of Courage and Sesame Workshop, a nonprofit responsible for the production of “Sesame Street,” for the HollyRod Corporate Compassion Award.
CITY OF INDUSTRY — The Bill Pickett Rodeo celebrates the talents of black cowboys and cowgirls at 6:30 p.m. July 15 and 3:30 p.m. July 16, at the Industry Hills Expo Center, 16200 Temple Ave.
