Long Beach Freeway lanes to close for five weekends

LOS ANGELES — As part of an ongoing $120 million pavement replacement project on the Long Beach (710) Freeway between Bell and Commerce, the state Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning a series of partial freeway closures the next five consecutive weekends.

The closures will be between Florence Avenue and Washington Boulevard, and will take place from 12:01 a.m. through 6 a.m. on Saturdays, and from 11 p.m. Sundays through 5 a.m. Mondays, Caltrans reported.

During those times, lanes will be reduced to two lanes northbound and three lanes southbound.

No closures are permitted on holidays, and local events will be taken into consideration in case the schedules need to be modified.

In the construction areas, speeds will be reduced to 45 mph, and oversize loads will not be permitted because of narrower lane widths.
