The Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year Award is renamed in honor of Jackie Robinson, 40 years after Robinson broke the baseball color barrier and won the 1947 Rookie of the Year Award. Robinson was the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
