Alabama native James Cleveland Owens, better known as Jesse, wins his fourth gold medal in track and field at the Summer Olympics in Berlin, shattering Adolf Hitler’s Nazi theories of “Aryan supremacy” and becoming a source of racial pride for millions of black Americans.
