Three area teams lose in CIF baseball wild card games

Three area CIF Southern Section baseball teams were eliminated from the playoffs May 19 before they really got started.

Culver City lost to Palos Verdes 2-1 and Cathedral lost to St. Joseph, 3-1 in Division 3 wild card games.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary fell to Southlands Christian, 7-5 in a Division 5 wild card game that took eight innings.

The first round of the playoffs begin May 21 and May 22.

In Division 2, Paramount travels to Burbank Burroughs, Glenn hosts Royal and Warren hosts Etiwanda May 22. In Division 3, St. Paul travels to Walnut May 21.

In Division 4 California High hosts the winner of the May 20 wild card game between Jurupa Valley and Schurr and Montebello hosts Troy.

Alhambra hosted Carpinteria, Whittier hosted Rim of the World and Santa Fe hosted West Torrance in wild cards games that were played May 20.

The Alhambra-Carpinteria winner faces Sonora, the Rim of the World-Whittier winner faces Serrano and the West Torrance-Santa Fe winner faces Don Lugo May 22 at 3 p.m.

In Division 6, Salesian hosts Temecula Prep Friday at 3 p.m. at East Los Angeles College.
