Farrakhan speaks at South L.A. church

LOS ANGELES — Minister Louis Farrakhan, the national representative of the Nation of Islam, spoke to an overflow crowd at Holman United Methodist Church June 17 on issues of justice, human rights, racial discrimination in America, the killings of African-American men by police, and the role of women and men in society.

He urged those in attendance to be in Washington, D.C., Oct. 10 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March.

In 1995, a million African-American men gathered in Washington, D.C. to declare their right to justice to atone for their failure as men and to accept responsibility as the family head, according to the Nation of Islam.

Farrakhan was the guest speaker at the Urban Issues Breakfast Forum of Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Asadullah Samad.

Farrakhan touched on California politics, calling several members of the state’s Legislative Black Caucus “traitors” and “dishonorable” because of their co-sponsorship or support of a bill (SB 277) that would require almost all school-aged children to be vaccinated.

“The proposals would result in the arrest of women on welfare who do not vaccinate their children and their children would be pulled out of school,” Farrakhan said. “The proposals will be coming to the main floor of the Legislature [soon].”

At the forum, Minister Tony Muhammad, the western regional representative of the Nation of Islam, announced an emergency town hall meeting would be held June 18 at 7 p.m. at 8039 S. Vermont Ave.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Dr. Brian Hooker, senior lead scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will discuss “vaccines shots, rates of autism in black boys, and startling information that possibly another Tuskegee experiment will be taking place,” Muhammad said.

“Come and hear the facts—that there is something in the vaccine shots that gives black boys autism at a rate 3 to 5 times greater than their white counterparts.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
