PASADENA — Pasadena police fatally shot a man Thursday during a traffic stop when the man allegedly shot at them, a police spokeswoman said.

The shooting occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Mentone Avenue just south of Washington Boulevard, said Janet Pope Givens of the Pasadena Police Department.

"Officers were doing a traffic stop, and everything was going okay until the driver got out and fired shots at officers,'' Givens said.

The officers fired back, killing the man, she said.

"Several suspects from inside the vehicle fled, so a perimeter has been set up in the area while we search for them,'' she said.

Joe you jerk, at first the police said someone else had shoot the man,30 minutes later they changed the story to he shoot at them and and they murdered him. now today the police are backing down from the statement that the murdered man shot at police at all. If you believe what the police tell you,you must not me smart.

Your title is extremely irresponsible and misleading. It mentions nothing of the fact that the man shot at the police first! An officer gets up in the morning to protect innocent lives and simply stops someone as we ask him to do and he gets fired upon. Senseless! Also, it may be a sophomoric question but why is the shot from the man "alleged" but the shot from the police is fact? Just curious... Given they were shot at, is it possible to give the Pasadena police the benfit of the doubt, ?
